    because he can't be held politically accountable by a majority of Americans, because a majority of Americans can't vote for or against him - only those living in Kentucky. The only way the rest of us who don't live in Kentucky can dislodge him is help fund his eventual opponent. This is the price we've paid for having a Legislature that isn't elected on a national (rather than a state by state level).

    As for the filibuster, I'd rather get rid of it than reform it. The filibuster is only kept around to make an ossified relic like the U.S. Senate relevant in the modern era. Getting rid of the filibuster would make the minority who voted against gun safety legislation (especially undeservedly powerful Senators like Max Baucus) quickly irrelevant.
