  •  NYT Issues Embarrassing Correction (1+ / 0-)
    Recommended by:
In the report of the case of John J. Hays, convicted on Wednesday of bigamy, it was stated that the prisoner made the acquaintance of his second wife, Miss Jane White, at a disreputable house. This, we are assured, is an error. The acquaintance was formed at the Pierepont House, -- one of the first and most respectable hotels in Brooklyn.
The retraction is from Sept. 20, 1861. I sympathize with Miss White, another victim of careless journalism by the CNN of the 1860s.
