    many reporters and politicians and decision makers...

    Those who really get economics is too small a world... but does this seemingly glaring distortion do much to affect the reputations of Reinhart and Rogoff in that world?

      Including this quote (emphasis added):

      The findings by Reinhart and Rogoff “have served as an intellectual bulwark in support of austerity policies,” the University of Massachusetts academics said. The fact that their results “are wrong should therefore lead us to reassess the austerity agenda.”
      That has to count for something.

      And, BTW, nearly everyone (including me) is a "casual reader" when it comes to economics.
