I just hope we don't start bombing Grozny or Istanbul.

    Still, I understand your dismay.

the brothers were of Kyrgyzstan origin but born in Russia. I don't think we will be bombing Moscow any time soon.

discussion about why people from Krgyzstan might have grievances against the U.S. (Think 25% of Iraq's population killed, wounded or displaced for a lie.)

I think it was Mark Twain who opined that war is America's excuse to learn geography. That said, I doubt most Americans could even find Krgyszstan on a map. Fox News might place it where Iran is currently :)

There are many countries whose people have good cause for grievances against the United States.  For example, hundreds of thousands of people in the Philippines died in U.S. concentration camps in the period 1899-1902.  See, e.g., .  It's amazing the Filipinos now generally love the United States.

began, isn't it? Not an expert on Philippine history, but think some of their supposed affection for us may have been forced by the need to resist Japanese imperialism and typical colonized-colonizer dynamics.

We did a number on the Moros, to our everlasting shame as a nation. Became a template for future imperial excursions in Asia, like Vietnam with the 'search and destroy' tactics, etc.

after they murdered over a million Filipinos.

In Southeast Asia, the Manila massacre of February 1945 resulted in the death of 100,000 civilians in the Philippines. It is estimated that at least one out of every 20 Filipinos died at the hand of the Japanese during the occupation
this is an example of the Manila Massacre alone:
It is said that Japanese troops looted, burned, and brutally executed, tortured, decapitated, and sexually abused women, men and children alike, Red Cross personnel, prisoners of war, and hospital patients[citation needed]. The total of 100,000 death was counted after the battle, but the actual cause of their death is not known.
yeah, a lot of them probably died of heart failure

            Happy just to be alive

          •  Today - I think we have legit grievances (6+ / 0-)

against the bombers and quite frankly - I don't give a shit what their grievance is - you don't go and kill innocent people.

Bush, Cheney and the entire cabal being handed over to the Hague for war crimes?

They only have the deaths of some 1,000,000 innocent Iraqis to answer for.

              •  This isn't about Bush and Cheney (2+ / 0-)

it's about two (maybe more) people blowing up innocent people at the Boston Marathon on Patriots day - it's about dead police officers.

G write a diary about Bush and Cheney's crimes but don't try to deflect what's going on here to some other event.

progressive of the former Soviet Central Asian states.  Nationally,  their relationship with the U.S. is quite good--I was actually looking into working with the American University of Central Asia there on some projects....

There has been a significant problem with Islamic militants in Uzbekistan--and some spillover, I suppose, in Kyrgyzstan--but my guess is that Kyrgyzstan is not where the issue lies but Chechyna.  I'm not sure (as no one is) how these brothers self-identify, or what their causes are, so we'll see.
