      . . .As I've never ridden a velocipede. Perhaps I'd be better off calling myself a "scorcher" due to the way I like to ride (with drop bars). I'm mostly using the term velocipede in my research because it helps differentiate between various iterations of bicycle. If I were to use bicycle to refer to the velocipede/boneshaker, the high-wheeler and the safety/Rover, I would give my dissertation committee a headache. Also, I think velo is a cool word, even though it doesn't refer to any of the technical aspects of a bicycle.
