  •  Because once a meme is thoroughly (0+ / 0-)

accepted anything the black/socialist/Kenyan/antiChrist in the Oval Office says means nothing.

You adopt and then reframe the language, you don't thrill your base by coming out swinging.  It's smart politics.

Case in point is Medicare reforms, which caused endless heartburning in the progressive blogosphere.  Obama used language the RW uses - reform - and the assumption was that he meant the same thing: privatize or strangle.  As it tuned out, he meant exactly what he said.  Reform it, meaning make it more responsive, less wasteful, less prone to fraud, more effective in actually providing care.  And he achieved what he intended.

If lefties could learn this one thing - adopt and reframe - the hysteria would be reduced by 90% and we might actually be in a position to improve on and help implement the change we say we want.  At this point I think it's more about embracing victimization and betrayal than it is about changing what we dislike.

I'm not looking for a love that will lift me up and carry me away. A love that will stroll alongside and make a few amusing comments will suffice.

    •  Reframe? I just say what I mean (0+ / 0-)

like for example, "If the Democratic Party cuts Social Security or Medicare benefits, it will lose my vote".

And I'm not convinced that Obama's Medicare cuts did all this fabulous things you spin mainly because I don't trust the spin anymore because too many lies have been used to try to cheat me out of Social Security benefits.
