Or in the case of this line figure out how to keep it working. The earliest data I have is dated 1942. Will be rebuilt one day (maybe sooner rather than later now) but it hasn't yet because there is so little load in the area. I have a porcelain bell (insulator used to keep the line separate from the tower and ground) from a tower just north of town sitting on the shelf in my office.

that had wiring from way back when ,
porcelain bells nailed to the frame inside
with real antique cloth wrapped wire .
I could not understand how it had not be redone already .

My mother like to collect old things , she has a few blue glass insulators .

        Line man
I was in my Gramps back yard near Spokane , he had nine acres , I heard an unusual noise , I walked towards where the noise came from , I walked along / under the power lines , I crossed into the neighbors property . I had crossed most of the way across the neighbors place when I saw laying on the ground under a power pole a lineman , he was not moving . An electric company truck was not far away . It was obvious to me that he had been shocked and had fallen from the pole . I didn’t have any training for helping him directly so I didn’t even think of doing anything for him myself . I ran back to my Gramps place and called emergency , they asked me where the guy was and I told them best as I could , he was up an unmarked nameless dirt road . After the phone call I went out to the spot where the dirt road hit the road the emergency people would be coming up . I could hear them . I stood on the side of the road with my arm out pointing up the dirt road . A big fire truck came up the road with lights and sirens going . They slowed to a stop and asked if the guy was up the dirt road I was pointing towards . I said yes and they turned and went up the dirt road . I stayed there because I could hear that others were coming . I have no idea what happened to the line man , I don’t know if he lived or died .

        •  As to the lineman (0+ / 0-)

I have never been there in person but I have gotten that call. The call where they tell you someone just died on one of your projects. Punch to the gut.
