  •  They are Americans. They grew up here. Imagine (0+ / 0-)

if every time someone committed a crime the media started talking about the ethnic origin or religion of the alleged perpetrators.

The problem is not necessarily that the media is mentioning the fact that they may lived in Chechnya.  It's the narrative about possible Islamist-induced terrorism, etc., and then it takes off from there, causing harm to an entire community of people.

At this point I don't know if there is a foreign terrorism component here in this story, but what would be your take if it turns out that there wasn't?

    •  all the major muslim terrorist attacks in US (2+ / 0-)

had a foreign component, so why wouldn't it be logical to follow that train of thought and not to initially think that they might be radicalized by overseas / online / etc.? If that component isn't found, then it isn't found and we go from there.

    •  From what I've heard (1+ / 0-)

They were completely normal guys until 2010 when their former coaches, friends, etc. lost track of them. Something happened that changed them.

They've also been on Russian blogs so you can't pretend that they aren't still connected to where they're from.

    •  No, that's not really true (0+ / 0-)

From the accounts I've heard the older brother was already in late teenege years when he moved here. He grew up it seems in Kyrgyzstan and Dagestan. Obviously the younger brother has spend more of his formative years here

Personally, I wonder if they have the right guys, also

Touch all that arises with a spirit of compassion
