Pretty much confirmed the suspect got away early this am before they had a chance to enclose the area.

I wish the locked down had worked and trapped him.

Why the police escalated things against Christopher Dorner in California before it got dark.

      •  That was different (0+ / 0-)

They had a secure perimeter around Dorner. As the post you're replying to points out, the police did not have enough time to create a secure perimeter in this case.

to not be where they expected. He was in an area that has very limited access and is also very rugged - he couldn't leave easily foot and he would have been stopped on the road.

That's just like Watertown where there are lots of streets and no mountains to keep people from walking out in any direction.

(Is it time for the pitchforks and torches yet?)

Dorner only targeted the police, and lots of progressives hate the police. So the effort to get him was wrong.

          •  You don't have to hate the police (I don't) (0+ / 0-)

to believe that Dorner should have been waited out:

Samuel Walker, emeritus professor of criminal justice at the University of Nebraska Omaha, was critical of the decision to use the "burner" tear gas canisters.

"It's true, he was firing at them. But he was cornered. He was trapped. At that point, there was no rush in the sense that he was barricaded. The standard rules on barricade situations are that you can wait the person out," Walker said. "To use a known incendiary device raises some very serious questions in my mind."
