You make some good points but while I agree that things are improving on the extreme edges (racism, sexism, outright discrimination, legal rights), they are devolving in the middle.  Corporate power has been steadily increasing since World War II, driven partly by technology and partly by consumer culture.  As our standard of living has grown, so have our material needs, leading to a society which is addicted to money.  The rich have learned to exploit that but in the end the real losers are the middle class.

The only reason it is scarce is because the Congress rations it and Wall Street hoards.
It is telling that the Constitution assigns responsibility for the currency in the same Article I, Section 8 in which standards for weights and measures are discussed. Currency is supposed to be a utility. That it is being used as a tool of subordination is factual, but not necessary.
Congress is trying to use the currency to reward and punish. That's corrupt. In dispensing this resource for their own eventual benefit, they are replaying the role of the unjust steward in the Bible. Since, like the steward, they are authorized to manage the assets and are, indeed, paid to do so, distributing them to their friends is like the steward in the Bible writing down his master's debtors' debts. The only recourse for poor management is to fire the hireling. The story line, propounded by both Republicans and Democrats, that the private corporations are the villains is a fraud. Corporations are created by statute and, as Michigan and Wisconsin have recently demonstrated in regards to the unions (also corporations), can be "reformed" or dissolved by statute, as can municipal corporations. What ALEC is doing is despicable, but their example is not without merit.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
