    Dogs are expendable.  I personally wouldn't feel any emotional loss if several dogs were killed while taking him down.

      Police officers make an informed choice to put their lives on the line. K9 units don't. Not that they don't serve a useful purpose, but I'm still sad when a dog gets shot in the line of duty.

      a person had a similar opening to get at the suspect before he could shoot and/or trigger an explosive device.

      Dogs are faster than people, so my wondering was whether they would need less of an opening - given that the other variables were taken into account.
