      Given all the chatter from people who knew the younger brother and saying how nice he was and how completely out of character this is to the person they knew, I wonder if his older brother was the one who led him onto this path. He may well have been the mastermind of this.

        That's a big part of the story, to my thinking. The father's not having much peace about now, methinks. Putin's Russia's most certainly raking him over the coals, figuratively if not literally. One wonders if we'll ever hear about what comes out of that.

        This guy did not have the personal lifestyle usually sought out by those who recruit jihadists.  My guess is that older brother led him in, possibly by reference to liberating an unseen homeland.  But it would nonetheless be valuable to figure out how older brother got younger brother on board.
