language, which is a product of power relations. After all superstition has been vanquished, "Science" (misunderstood and mis-used) will stand in as the "authority" with which some people will try to manipulate, control, etc. , other people.
By "Science", I do not mean real science, although, real science will be employed to uphold "Science".
"Freedom of thought" will be used to squelch freedom of thought, and so on.

in http://en.m.wikipedia.org/..._(film). The people who reject superstition and rely on their best science foolishly sail off with the knowledge the earth is not flat then see a bird and deem this to be a sign of good luck. I'm afraid belief/need for hope is part of part of human wiring. I don't think it's about power but lack thereof IMHO. And it is not necessarily good or bad.

My avatar is a photograph I took in 2008 of the headwaters of a waterfall in the imperiled Parque Nacional de Garajonay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on La Gomera, birthplace of my paternal grandfather, in the Canary Islands near the Sahara Desert.

"the lack thereof" re: power means that it's about power.
Power "or the lack thereof" is fundamental to identity and communication. I don't think it's necessarily good or bad either. It's like being a carbon-based, oxygen breathing organism.
I'm a carbon-based, oxygen breathing organism whose self-awareness, identity, and ability to communicate evolved from primordial socio-biological power relations. It's the foundation for everything human. The Bible, Shakespeare, etc. Everything.
