  •  MSNBC had someone on talking about how (21+ / 0-)

the older brother was angry that he wasn't allowed to become an American citizen in time to try out for the Olympics in boxing.  From that angry and disappointed place, he turned more to religion for a sense of purpose in life.

A neighbor said he started dressing in more traditional clothes, long beard about a year or so ago.  About a month ago, the same neighbor saw that he'd shaved and was wearing western dress ... possibly getting ready for the bombing by then, in retrospect?

I wonder if the religiousity was the result of being disappointed in his sports career, not knowing what he was going to do next.  To set your sights on the Olympics demonstrates a real desire to excel or make your mark on the world stage, and he may have seen the US govt as messing up his life by not allowing him to compete.

He may have turned to his religion pissed off and lost -- a perfect candidate for others to give him a new purpose in life.  He may not be an actual part of anything, but he may just have been someone that a good overseas gave a few how to lessons and stood back to see if the seed would produce.

That the marathon was a sports event may just be a coincidence, but this is seeming more and more like a personal psychodrama to me.

    Just thoughts.

Plutocracy (noun) Greek ploutokratia, from ploutos wealth; 1) government by the wealthy; 2) 21st c. U.S.A.; 3) 22nd c. The World
