  •  I don't know what you mean by this (0+ / 0-)
Just like it is an excuse for a whole lot of violent Christians who beat up on women.
I haven't heard a lot of that, but maybe I am misunderstanding your point.

My dad was Irish Catholic.  A belt was always at hand to keep the wife & kiddies in line.  Mom was Polish Catholic, and she got her swipes in, too.  It was how they were raised.

My Catholic dad explained the way he controlled the family, sometimes violently, by saying

"As god is the head of the church, man is the head of the house."

        We are both survivors.

Just because the government keeps a record of real property transfers, it doesn't mean that the government wants to confiscate your home.

but you make no connection to Christianity.  I was raised by two Irish Catholics myself, who saw such acts as sins against God.

NCJAn, I see your father's sick justification, one which I haven't heard before, as analogous to "the king in his castle"  or "the man is the master in his own home", as one more of historical patriarchy than any explicit Christian rationalization.

I am sorry both of you had to endure such horrors as children.
