    it frequently seems to me that NZ is a much more progressive place than the US in general, and yet they have a conservative governing coalition. But I would guess the National Party is not quite the same as our Republican Party.

    Gondwana has always been at war with Laurasia.

      althought sometimes it doesn't feel like it. I had the chance to talk with one of the National Party politicians a few months back who is a big Obama fan. He considered that Obama would be a centrist in the National Party caucus but much too right wing for the Labour or Green parties.

      I think this is a fair assessment given Obama's domestic policies and approaches (conditioned as they are by the domesticated insanity of US politics). As a global politician his reputation is much more complex. Even the Centre/Left parties in Europe and NZ love him as a successor to the prior neo-con regime in the US. However, OMG, the Drones, the Drones, the Drones!!!!!

      "Both sides are just the same". Voter shorthand for "I haven't been paying attention".
