Whatever credibility it had under Otis Chandler left when he was forced out.

It's going back to what it was before he took over, a right wing Republican propaganda rag.

knows this isn't true. It's liberal on social and international issues and centrist on fiscal and educational issues. It endorsed Obama, and it endorsed Eric Garcetti, a Democrat, for mayor. It mainly endorses Democrats. It's not as progressive as we would want it to be, but it's pretty much where it was when Otis Chandler was in charge. It's a valuable civic asset. Under the Koch Brothers it will be a force for evil.

Back in 1910, the Times Building was bombed by radical union members in retaliation for anti-union activities by Harrison Gray Otis, its publisher (not just through the paper but through an employer's association he controlled). The paper did subsequently moderate its politics, but it was the same family running it. Otis Chandler was Harrison Gray Otis's great-grandson.

and stayed non-union except for a short term when one department had a union contract for three years in the 60s. However, the parent company Times-Mirror, which at its peak had more than 50 subsidiaries, owned several other companies, including newspapers, that were union shops.

          "let's talk about that"
