Dowd has a point. Obama is the opposite of say Lyndon Johnson, albeit LBJ had a better crew to work with. Obama does not use his bully pulpit for us against them. We could use his help more.

Republican Party inhabiting bully pulpits, why assume Obama could get more done with a bigger, meaner mouth?  If a miracle ever happens and people figure out how much he's accomplished without it maybe we could build an electorate driven by appreciation of competence rather than posturing.

I think it's time for women to run the world.  A little less machismo and focus on The Big Win couldn't hurt.

I'm not looking for a love that will lift me up and carry me away. A love that will stroll alongside and make a few amusing comments will suffice.

Assume Obama is trying to build a citizen movement to break the GOP and is using guns as the organizing issue.  We'll see whether it works.  Otherwise I'm afraid MoDo may be right that he and other Dem "leaders" just don't have the cojones that the times require.

By not changing the rules of the Senate to stop filibusters in only but the more dire debates and circumstances is where the Dems in DC have failed.

To blame the failure of gun control legislation on Obama where he was able to take on the NRA, get the public completely behind him on this, and get 54 votes, is ridiculous.

The fact that we can't pass legislation with 54% of the Senate agreeing to it is insane.

true but the fact that we still have a filibuster, and Reid and Obama are the people who have the power to change that, without the republicans, and won't do it is something you are overlooking. I ask you why they are not doing just that.

Obama cannot change the Senate rules. The Senate Majority Leader can, with the support of his caucus. Please stop assigning magical powers to POTUS.

            •  No he can't change the rules but he could have (0+ / 0-)

pressed the Senate on filibuster reform.  MoDo talks about arm twisting on the vote.  I'm not convinced he could have gotten Heitkamp or Pryor to change their votes but I believe he could have worked the Senate over on filibuster reform.  It was close and he could have been influential.  This is where the real power and strategy was to be exercised - and because this was not done, PBOs entire 2nd term agenda has been jeopardized.  No, he is not magical, but he is also not a great strategist.

I've been coming to DKos since May 2008 and I still don't have a sig line. Oh well.....

think Obama can tell Reid to end the filibuster than you are a magical thinker and an Obama denialist. Drones kill innocent people all the time, No bankster's who stole billions in jail. Wake up dude! He is a republican president.
