    I had just looked it up to remind myself of the genus.  The native species (in the photo) is Calliandra eriophylla.  There is also a Mexican species with red flowers that is very commonly used in landscaping in the Phoenix area.

    •  the Baja Fairy Duster is also much taller, up to 6 (5+ / 0-)

      feet in some instances while the native tops at about 2....some are very brightly colored some are almost white...my guess is trace minerals because you will see different colors patched together.......

      One of my favs and a very slow grower,  trim them at your peril because it will take years before they grow back.....
