    what they have works better and does not cause excessive resistance to build up in reaction to it... too bad they do not understand how to do that in a different set of circumstances... like Iraq or Afghanistan....

    Crude police states operate like they do because they have to resort to that level of repression and control to stay in power and impose the decisions and policies they want...

    Why do more than is needed? Bad for business and is more efficient to do it via more subtle control... and the mask only slips in some circumstances and any blowback can be smothered with the right media spin, delay, and judicial foot dragging to wait out and wear out the few who attempt to get legal remedies... while corporations get more powerful... The police more laws unto themselves, the politicians more obedient and the media just that much more amenable.
