will be able to make the ruling elite do the right thing, especially if it interferes with their grotesque acquisition of wealth and power.

We are beyond right and wrong, beyond immoral and moral arguments.

...essential elements of the fight to bring about change or block rotten projects. They obviously must be combined with other efforts as well. Over the pipeline, there ARE other efforts: First Nations people are involved at various levels on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border, civil disobedience on the part of scores of people in Washington over the past two years, this public comment action. Educational efforts like this blogathon are crucial to success; they aren't all that must be done, of course, but they are needed.

I should have added that to my initial post.  The diarist has done an incredibly good job in providing us with not only the data to understand this issue, but with the moral argument as to why it is important.  I applaud the diarist for doing so, and it was a mistake not to leave that out.

Now, having said so, my point is that along with the public education campaigns taking place about these issues, I think we should also try to educate the people about what it really going to take to stop the ruling elite from their rapacious pillaging and looting.

Many people still think that when it comes to these issues, if one presents a strong counter-argument, the science and facts behind those arguments, along with public support, that somehow that will be enough to move the political establishment to do the right thing.

        We are well beyond that.
