"it was a drill gone wrong" CTs? No matter what comes out in the trial, there will be people who propagate off the wall theories that are even more implausible than the stories they are trying to debunk. Hell, 9/11 Truthers have created a cottage industry out of youtube videos and grainy photos.

The most popular Boston CTs right now seem to be that Tamerlan was given the bomb by the FBI, that a private contractor carried out the bombing as a false flag, and that Tamerlan was actually the naked guy that was arrested on Thursday night/Friday morning.

The endotrachael tube will interfere with talking, regardless of injury. The bullet injury could have created a lot of swelling in the oropharynx, which could be going down. What is still unknown is whether there is nerve or muscle damage and if the docs and therapists can decrease it enough for him to eventually talk more easily than writing answers.

If the swelling or damage remain enough to interfere with normal breathing, he made need an interim tracheostomy until the airway is competent to allow normal air exchange. Since that tube does not go past the vocal chords, it can be fitted to allow the person to talk with some extra effort. As long as the other damage to the area has not affected the nerves and muscles.

Meanwhile, the capacity to be awake long enough to handle some questions by physically writing the answers, even for short periods, is good progress.

Having been reading some of those CT ideas elsewhere, I think/hope they have to finish the public safety piece quickly and move on to the investigation. I have some pretty negative and cynical opinions about who's really in charge of some government operations. Not as bizarre as what is circulating on too many comment blogs.
