  •  Only three Democrats sit in seats redder... (6+ / 0-)

I in fact say only 1 does, Jim Matheson, Rahall's to an extreme degree and McIntyre's to a much more modest degree are more Democratic locally. This is just flat out red turf. There aren't conservadems here hardly at all which is why her favorable rating is just beyond astoundingly good. I also  note that they're including the Green party candidate now too who takes 3% yet ECB still is at 50%. I doubt that many people vote Green for the former multi-time Democratic candidate Platt when ECB won the primary with nearly 95%.

Rahall and to a lesser extent McIntyre are not as notable because of the Demosaur nature of their districts.  But SC-01 has been solid GOP terrain for decades now.

As for the Green, I bet it's actually Sanford bleeding votes there.  But of course, third party candidates underperform their polling.  I'm thinking the final margin will be something like 52-47-1.

Rahall's district in particular should always come with a massive asterisk when we talk about it. More than *any8 district it seems to have the biggest disparity between presidential performance and local performance. But yeah, sorry to nitpick but I hate to see people consider that as one of the most Republican Dem seats when it's far from it. Coal is just a special issue.

Anyway I was trying to think of one, but I couldn't come up with a single senate Democrat whose state is as consistently red as SC-01 so that means that not only would she have the 2nd reddest constituency period, Matheson has by far the reddest (at roughly R+15 adjusting for Romney's 'home' state).
