If you mean the first step backwards, then I agree. All it does is throw more customers at private insurance and big pharma by making health insurance mandatory without even the slightest ability to negotiate prices. It may marginally improve things for a very small percentage of mostly working middle class people but there are going to be enormous numbers of working poor left behind by unscrupulous employers and a far too low cutoff for federal aid. I couldn't afford private insurance without my company providing it, even if I saved the money I pay into it. Obamacare is going to be a disaster for the working poor.

Medicare for all is the bare minimum we need as a nation to fight our way out of this. Then at least doctors, hospitals and ambulance rides would have to justify the costs. They get away with charging what they do now because there is no structure. Single payer would be better. I agree the system is broken but Obamacare puts on a band-aid over one injury at the cost of inflicting more injury elsewhere.

I absolutely agree that Medicare for all would be a much better solution.  I guess I was thinking more in terms of those who have pre-existing conditions when I said Obamacare was a good first step.  Do you remember when it was proposed that the age of Medicare be lowered to 55 as part of the package?  I remember rejoicing because I felt that would be a great way to prove that Medicare was a good option.  If they'd lowered the age to 55 and that turned out to be a success, then lowering it again or allow it for all would be a much easier sell.  But the GOP had a heart attack over that proposal and it was rejected.  Maybe someone will reintroduce that down the road.  I hope so....

        •  Well.... (10+ / 0-)

It's gotten to the point that the GOP gets their panties in a wad whenever anyone comes along with a good idea that would benefit the regular working stiffs of America.
          Medicare works.
It works for those over 65.
It would work for those 55 and over.
And it would work for those 45 and over.
Hell, it would work for anyone over the age of birth.

I think, therefore I am........................... Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose....AKA Engine Nighthawk - don't even ask!
