My son was vomiting and running a high fever.  I gave him tylenol and called the nurse hot line on the back of my insurance card to ask if I should take him in to the ER.  After some back and forth, the Nurse said she thought he should go, only because he has muscular dystrophy and is on steroids which somewhat compromise his immune system.

I drove him in, the doctor gave him an anti-nausea pill and took his temperature and sent us home.  The bill was $1,200 bucks.  It's ridiculous.  If I didn't have insurance there's no way I could afford that.
