Oh Mary Oh, Cassandra Waites, mrkvica

I live in WA State, an ostensibly "sane" part of the country. A co-worker, who is also a good friend of mine, has MS.  He was recently put on new MS drugs, which caused a severe allergic reaction a few weeks ago while we were at work.  An ambulance was called, which took him to the local hospital.  Unfortunately they had a hard time stabilizing his allergic reaction, so he was in the ER for about 7 hours.  While there-and long before he was stabilized-the hospital began demanding a $500 co-pay. My friend could barely breathe, and these a*sholes were demanding 500 bucks. The kicker is that it ISN'T EVEN THE CORRECT CO-PAY.  I don't even think there IS a co-pay for ER visits with our insurance.

They eventually released him home (before he was fully stabilized) because the ER was filling up with other, sicker folks and they didn't have room for him. The ER was never even able to get a hold of my friend's MS doctor.

Thankfully, my friend is much better now, but I couldn't believe how he was treated.  Our system indeed broken-
