    •  Three Republican Presidents have been assassinated (5+ / 0-)

JFK is the only Democratic President who has had the "honor".

        Presidents, Ford and Reagan.

If everyone did that how would the line of succession work?
I guesss we might all move up a notch, but who would want to?

        •  There was an attempted assassination of W too (6+ / 0-)

but it occurred on foreign soil.  A grenade was lobbed on stage while he was in the republic of Georgia.  It didn't go off and the story was quickly silenced, probably to prevent copycats.

A Republic of Georgia court has sentenced a man to life in prison for attempting to assassinate U.S. President George W. Bush by lobbing a hand grenade towards a podium during a rally in the capital last year, according to Georgia's interior minister.

Vladimir Arutinian of Tbilisi was also found guilty of trying to assassinate Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, who was standing on the podium with Bush on May 10.

He was also convicted of killing a police officer who tried to apprehend him two months after the incident.

The would-be assassin threw a grenade into a crowd about 20 meters (65 feet) from the stage where Bush had just begun speaking, but the grenade, wrapped in a plaid cloth, failed to detonate, authorities said.

Initial reports said the grenade was not live, but authorities later said it was.

They let him out and about after the incident? smh

            •  The shoe incident was in Iraq. (0+ / 0-)
On 14 December 2008, during a press conference at the Prime Minister's Palace in Baghdad, Iraq, journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw his shoes at United States President George W. Bush. "This is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, you dog", yelled al-Zaidi in Arabic as he threw his first shoe towards the U.S. president.[1] "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq", he shouted as he threw his second shoe.[1] President Bush ducked twice, avoiding being hit by the shoes. Al-Zaidi was then pulled to the floor[26] by another journalist,[27] before being grabbed by Prime Minister Maliki's guards, kicked, and rushed out of the room. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino was hit in the face by a microphone boom sent flying by a presidential bodyguard resulting in a clearly visible black eye.[28]
              List of shoe throwing incidents

I love that there is a list of shoe throwing incidents!

sending poisoned letters to the President count as attempts don't they?  Even if they are lame and ineffective as far as attempts go.
