    hadn't been paying attention the past however many years. Did they not know that he's a lying, morally bankrupt, sack of shit? Nothing has changed.

      re-consider.  Let's be honest, it's an emotional commitment and people who make it are wholly invested.  The investment is a major component of their self-images.

        that the Tea Party evolved on tax day 2009.  If not for Tea Party primary victories, the GOP would control the Senate and the House.  If that had happened, then Obama would have been forced into making ALL of the Bush Tax Cuts permanent, instead of just 88% of them.

        And, a Grand Bargain (without the revenue part) would already be in place.

        Then again, he might not even be president today.

      lose to whoever he drew in the runoff.  But the 16 candidate field splintered the Country Club Republican vote about a dozen different ways and and Sanford drew a fellow named Curtis Bostic as his opponent.  Bostic is a moralizing (rabidly antiabortion, antigay) tax-and-spend economic populist from the mountains of Tennessee.  He is a fish out of water in the libertarian Lowcountry.  He was Sanford's wet dream.  With that choice, turnout was fairly abysmal but Bostic never had a chance.
