  •  Lovely photos of the iridescent feathers, OD. (9+ / 0-)

I have noticed that the only time I think a starling is attractive is when it takes on that speckled iridescence at breeding time.

My lilacs will fade soon, PS, so I look forward to yours when they finally emerge.

We are having unusually warm weather here in Eureka, 75 and sunny/breezy. Warm weather here means heat waves inland, and CA is already beset with grass and brush fires, especially down south. Yet it is cold and pouring rain for the KY Derby. Sorry about the snow in IA, folks. Not a good weather start for the baseball season, either.

    •  Thanks, I do love that starling iridescence too (7+ / 0-)

Birds really put on a show for breeding. It's all out for a little while then they it away. We humans are odd about that aren't we? Like, we wear our grubbies around our mates and get all fancied up when we go out to spend a short time with strangers in public, lol.

Those fires you folks are having already this year - that is really scary. If it's this dry in May... I've been checking the summary of precip they have at NOAA, percent of normal, and it is shockingly low down there. Extreme and prolonged. I really hope you get some relief in Calif.
