Baucus spent half his life in the Senate and retired at 71 because he's greedy for money.  There are plenty of valid criticisms of him.  This isn't one of them.  Your argument is invalid.

    •  Yeah, he won't be making any money at all (0+ / 0-)

... from corporate interests. He'll probably just move  back to Montana and go fishing every day.

      Right?

and you don't either.  I do know what he has been doing for 40+ years, and that is public service.  He is not rich, at all.  I would not blame him if he wanted to go make some money, but the guy is 71 years old and chose to spend four decades of his life in public service, not making piles of money.  Attack him on policy positions and I will probably agree with you.  What you are saying is speculative and unfair.

If he doesn't jump on the corporate gravy train of the very interests he served for so long (the same folks who have been funneling money to him for years), I will eat my hat.

In fact, he is the poorest senator:

Wealth in the chamber ranges from Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) — the richest Member of Congress overall — who tops the list with a minimum net worth of at least $167.55 million, to Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), who registers a negative $40,000.
          That's from 2009.

he has ever has a job outside government.  A little like Paul Ryan but not born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
