    They have to take care of anything that comes up, from a guy with a knife out by the garbage cans to a rabid dog to fixing potholes.  The closest sheriff's car might be 20 miles away.

    From many of the comments here, it is clear than some people have just never lived in or spent time in small towns.

    To me, West is a fairly large small town at 2800, but that is still nothing like the metro areas some commenters seems to have sole familiarity with.

      of Texas that don't have 2,800 people. Heck, we've got counties that don't have 2,800 people, out here ... Dickens, Kent, Loving, probably some more up north ...
