  •  OK. so this is really cool to watch (11+ / 0-)

The three babies were born on 3 successive days. So that would mean they all had the exact same gestation period; and that makes sense.

I just witnessed an interesting feeding. My concern is for the little one, presumably the last to hatch, (the one that seemed to me to be left last for feeding, and sometimes didn't get fed much at all).

When I checked in, the 2 dominant ones were at the edge of the nest and she was making them reach for food, instead of what she has done so far, which is deliver it to the tip of their beaks. The little one was behind them in the nest.

Then all at once the little one got up on its feet, and even though wobbly at first, hobbled up and in a move, all at once, pushed its way in between the first two. Then in a second burst of energy, it broke through the line and lurched IN FRONT of them. Now the little one was in a position to snatch the food before the others could reach it.

It seems she is making them learn to balance and forcing them to strengthen their neck muscles and forcing them to waddle up over the edge of the nest bowl in order to get fed.
