's campaign emailed me a begging letter and I wanted to share my response for anyone who might have gotten one, too.

    Hi Matt,

I'm not one of Al's constituents and as someone from outside MN politics I've frankly been very disappointed to have heard so little from him in the last five years. He hasn't been visible at all on the national stage, has contributed exactly nothing, as far as I can tell, to the fight for Social Security or Medicare, yet he's asking for national support. He is supremely skilled at communicating and talking truth to stupid, but he doesn't seem to have done squat during the time he's been there. I understand taking it slow at first, getting to know the lay of the land for a while and not wanting to step on toes right away, but when I look at how vocal Elizabeth Warren has been, right from the get-go, I have to admit Senator Franken seems to have fallen quite short of our expectations of him.

I'm very glad he won, and I hope he keeps his seat, but as tight as money is out here these days, I'm definitely not going out of my way to support someone who doesn't seem to have gone much out of his, lately.

Comedy may seem undignified, but there is no dignity or honor in how things have been going in Washington all this time, so there's really nothing to lose. The Senate is stuck between stupid, mean and downright vicious. Harry Reid, et al, are sitting on their collective thumbs and allowing the GOP to distract and destroy the Senate's ability to do its damned job and our damned business. Windows for action are closing daily; preschoolers are only preschoolers once, for instance. 44,000 people still die preventable deaths every year because they lack the money to obtain simple care. Al Franken is incredibly gifted when it comes to skewering that sort of thing. The country needs to get some perspective and see how determinedly obstructive the current state is, and satire and mocking are great vehicles for exactly that. Maybe he should confab with Senator Warren and plan some joint activities.

Caught me on an irritable day, I just didn't feel like padding the edges. ::sigh::

Gotta run, have a good one, all.
