social trend of women having careers and making money, and yet still having to come home and do unpaid work, a lot of it.

Discrimination persists in subtle and very destructive ways.

      •  I swear, Meg Whitman had all this money (0+ / 0-)

to throw at the governor's race, and she still lost by a landslide. Why? She was inexperienced at political campaigning, obviously. She was also trying hard to appeal to a notoriously sexist voting demographic, one that castigates visible, prominent women who aren't sex objects.

Meg Whitman was a frumpy, dumpy middle-aged plain Jane, with no pretensions to any other standard. She may have done much better if the voting demographic she was trying so hard with, was less preoccupied with women's looks.

Of course her physical appearance was going to cost her.
