lives in the Brookline-Newton district, Mike Capuano also lives there and has been in Congress for much longer. I had assumed that Kennedy would defer to Capuano and run in the 8th, especially since he represents a big chunk of it right now. And probably, no one in Massachusetts really wants to see a Kennedy/Capuano primary.

You are right that one of the great things about Massachusetts is that its Democrats are spread relatively evenly throughout the state. It would take some pretty strong gerrymandering to draw even a tossup district, never mind one where the Republicans would be favored.

was also in the district. It could be a tough sell if Kennedy moved southward. Of course all of this is hypothetical and we're nearly a decade away from having to redistrict.

Given that our legislature, while no progressive's dream, is 80% Democratic in the House and 90% in the Senate, there's little chance of a strong gerrymander designed to give the Republicans a seat any time soon!

Is that Raynham you've got in the Plymouth/Cape district?

Bristol County is all in the same district, and the only towns in Plymouth County that are in the Bristol district are Rochester and Mattapoisett.

On the map it looks like the light blue of the Plymouth district juts west at one point. I remember the county line being relatively straight and thought one town was put into the Plymouth district. Raynham would make sense as it shares a school district with Bridgewater, which is in Plymouth County.

Mattapoisett and Rochester with New Bedford makes sense. Seems like many Dems who hold office in New Bedford end up retired in Mattapoisett.
