And I'm glad you're using a data-based approach, but there are limits to data, esp. when you're relying on tags.

I, for one, rarely use drones as a tag -- I don't think I have before yesterday -- so my Terror-War related posts that've hit the rec list and received hundreds or recs would've slipped beneath the radar. War and peace issues, civil liberties within the counterterrorism realm, etc are covered by a range of tags.

What's more, do you have a device to measure intensity, as opposed to breadth, of interest? I rec many posts, but I would definitely join an action on national insecurity. There's a sizable contingent of people here for whom this stuff is of major interest.

You can throw a ton of data at me, but I refuse to believe that an effort to, say, cancel the 2001 AUMF or call for release of the OLC drone memos wouldn't excite this place more than an effort to prevent Hagel from becoming SOD.

Use data by all means, but don't be captive to it. Please use your eyes, ears, and instincts as well.

      1) I post about drones probably on average once a week, but the tags on my morning diary are not customized (though the other diaries I write do have customized tags). Today I put a couple more tags in that correlate to the news items.

      2) That being said, wouldn't it still be better to get some metrics around tags in addition to just following the metrics (recs and shares) for single diaries?
