once war was inevitable, but there were many missteps by the eventual allies, that could have prevented the Nazi rise, in the years and decades prior.

You can argue not forcing reparations I suppose but the real kicker was poor economic conditions and the global collapse of the 20s and 30s would have affected Germany with or without reparations.

You can argue a forceful response to Hitler much earlier instead of appeasement but I don't think anyone truly believes that would have stopped Hitler...he was kind of a focused guy in this area.

You can argue I guess that there should have been more enforcement of the arms limitations on Germany but that couldn't go on forever.

I think barring insulating Germany from the worldwide economic collapse, there wasn't much that could have been humanly done that doesn't involve serious hindsight.

That's why it's important to understand history (which so few humans seem to care about).  The intelligent thing to do is study and learn from mistakes made in the past.  Ideally, fewer and fewer mistakes would lead to fewer and fewer wars.

"Who could have known?" was inexcusable coming from the likes of Rice and Rumsfeld.  They should have known. They did know.

But to truly understand history, one has to be able to step into the shoes of those who lived it.  Without the ability to do so, I don't believe anything will improve.

WHO could believe that bombing & killing & torturing & destroying & dominating & disrespecting could result in "winning hearts and minds"of ANYONE?

WHO could NOT foresee that blasting other countries to pieces...demonizing their cultures and religions...forcing them to be remade in our own image (down to replacing centuries old farming methods with mandatory use of Monsanto GM patented seed!) would lead to blue hot rage and hatred and a compulsion for revenge?

WHO? Only those void of the slightest ability to empathize with another human being.  WHO? The Reptilian Dicks Cheneys of the world, that's who.

Were the atheist, communist Chinese to suddenly drop from the sky...trample our fields, incinerate our homes, blow our loved ones and friends to a bloody pulp... on a mission to completely destroy our way of life and give us the FREEDOM to replace our culture with their own?  We would fester in the same, if not more intense, blinding rage and hatred that has been created  by the evildoers we have allowed to be our leaders.

In no way do I condone the violence seen in Boston...nor in NYC on 911. We do need to learn and understand what has given birth to such hatred.  But I do believe that every time we broadcast aspersions on all of Islam itself and Muslims as one single entity we are lighting another tiny flame to the fire that has already burnt us.

"Evil is a lack of empathy, a total incapacity to feel with their fellow man." - Capt. Gilbert,Psychiatrist, at the end of Nuremberg trials.
