because it runs counter to the interests of just about every elected official.

Some legislation is passable.  Some folks can be moved to support matters they're fairly indifferent about or won't support until it's safe to do so -- e.g., the current POTUS and marriage equality), but I don't expect campaign finance reform will ever pass.

The current system doesn't "work" as it does because of or in spite of marriage equality (to stick with this one issue), but it does "work" as it does on the basis of a flood of money.

Dogs from the street can have all the desirable qualities that one could want from pet dogs. Most adopted stray dogs are usually humble and exceptionally faithful to their owners as if they are grateful for this kindness. -- H.M. Bhumibol Adulyadej

I can only speak for where I live. I live in a rural area. A lot of folks make their living farming. I live in a very "red" area. If you came to my house I could take you to a bar with a ton of farmers.

Honestly they think Obama is from Kenya and he wants to take away their guns. I can't stress this enough, they are NOT liberal.

But bring up climate change and they seem to turn into pot smoking hippie liberals. They know things are FUBAR. They don't have any questions that our climate is changing, and not in a good way.

Why we can't bring these rural folks (where we don't share any other views in common) in with liberals like you and me .... well I just don't understand.

When opportunity calls pick up the phone and give it directions to your house.
