tip Russia gave them to keep an eye on black hat that they clearly didn't take seriously enough.

The FBI, in a statement released Friday night, said it scrutinized Tsarnaev and visited him and his family in 2011, but found no grounds for further action. After two months, the file on Tsarnaev was closed, according to a U.S. law enforcement official.

The Russian request had mentioned a concern that Tsarnaev was headed to a “region” in his homeland — most likely Dagestan — to join an underground group. The American agency said it asked its Russian counterpart for more information, but it received no response.

When asked why black hat could fly with impunity to Russia and who knows where else, they tell us his name was misspelled on the flight manifest.

FBI didn't know Boston bomber traveled to volatile Dagestan region in Russia in 2012 because 'his name was misspelled on travel documents'

How could they misspell a name on the flight manifest after 9/11?  They ask us for our IDs!

Democratic Senator Charles Schumer of New York told CNN 'there's certainly a lot of questions' about the FBI's handling of the case.

One U.S. counterterrorism official urged perspective. 'If we thoroughly investigated every one of these terrorism tips we get, we'd never get anything done,' he said.

A senior U.S. law enforcement source said that the number of tips received from Russian intelligence to the FBI each year is 'not that many.'

Especially after the FBI was warned by the Russians.

I wish people cared whether the USA actually has made significant improvements to prevent these horrific crimes since 9/11 more than the public's perception of whether they have made adequate improvements.

      Face palm.

      •  Were they specifically warned that the bombings (0+ / 0-)

were going to take place on Patriots Day or that in fact there were going to be bombings? You cannot plan for every possibility in a democracy.

After all, what exactly * is * their job?

Shades of Condi Rice's "who could have possibly known" idiocy, it seems.
