Please remind businesses relocating to low-wage, low-regulation Texas you need to remember 4 things:

    1) After you have moved your business to Texas, there is no zoning to prevent a chemical plant, factory hog farm, oil refinery or Gov. Perry’s new toxic waste site from being built across the street from your new facility.

    2) The education system is awful.  Employers have the expense of recruiting out-of-state employees and then the expenses of moving new employees to Texas.

    3) Many parents and non-parents will not move to Texas because of the crappy schools, low air-quality and the racial, religious, sexual orientation, etc. exhibited by many Texas' officials.  This may reflect the views of the electorate.

Let me think, now, what's the 4th.  Gimmie a minute...Hmmm...I know it, it's on the tip of my tongue.

Wait...I got it, did I mention...I did...can I call Carl Rove or Ted Cruz?

    •  Years ago, my husband was being recruited (11+ / 0-)

by a company in Dallas.  One of the things they said was that we would be able to afford a house with a swimming pool and maybe even some "staff".

My husband turned it down because our son is disabled and our daughter is gifted and the schools there suck ass.

He ended up basically telling them that no amount of money was worth any of it.

Plus while he was down there so many were "snotty" about his Boston accent.  :)

But we still talk about how there isn't enough money in this country for us to go there.

    •  Zoning is usually local (0+ / 0-)

You mean to say not one community in Texas has any zoning regulations? Not one?

      •  As a professional planner from Texas, I can say (0+ / 0-)

this is unequivocally NOT the case.  I challenge any other state's small towns to show how sophisticated their land-use and development regulations are, especially in the rural small towns from the Appalachians to he Rockies, and elsewhere.
