      is the direct translation, but the contextual translation is more like "The end of one game is merely the beginning of the next."

      Herberger was a famous German soccer coach, much beloved to this day both for both his coaching skill and his wisdom.

      I believe the idea behind that statement also applies to electoral politics, and is something the Democratic Party needs to do a better job of remembering. Not in the sense of staying in perpetual election mode, but in the sense of delivering on promises and not resting comfortably after the (lately all too-rare) win.

      The end of one election is merely the beginning of the next.

      It's time for a new sigline, I just haven't been inspired yet.
