    is because of international political considerations; namely, Turkey is a major U.S. ally and would very much mind if we recognized the Armenia genocide (or for that matter, the Greek genocide, and the Assyrian genocide which it committed simultaneously.)

    I'd put these as comparable to the U.S. treatment of Japan after WWII (Japan never saw a real de-Nazification similar to Germany, since the U.S. needed it as an ally/counterweight to the USSR/China in the Far East. That's why we still have major Japanese parties - including the current Prime Minister -  denying their war crimes. The equivalent would be if a German president advocated Holocaust denial.)
