Been thinking about education today. #1 Son seems to have gotten a good score on his entrance exam and so may be continuing his general education for another 4 years instead of being shunted off into a technical/vocational education. Kind of an odd system over here but a general education (essentially a senior high school) would keep more options open to him once he does finally figure out what he wants to do. The technical route might have more suited someone like me who always liked to scribble:

That's this morning's inking. I thought about my own arts education while I inked and particularly about one man who doesn't seem to have any references to him online at all. His name was Bill Feeny and he was my professor in college for my cartooning classes. He had done things in his career like inking the Popeye newspaper strip. An old fashioned cartoonist, Bill was a big advocate of inking with brushes and always said that the very tip of even the fattest round brush was a single hair. I've recently added a friend to my "friends list" on Facebook-- the great comics artist Mark A. Nelson. He's one of a group of accomplished comic book artists that were hanging around Madison, Wisconsin when I was in college. Mark does intricately detailed, gorgeous ink drawings-- he's quite famous for his work on the Aliens comic book for Dark Horse. Anyway, Mark has been posting some really beautifully textured inkwork lately and I let it inspire my saurian beastie above. I've got a long way to go to reach Mark's level of skill but I took some inspiration from old Bill and inked my whole drawing with a single #12 round brush. My education continues!

Had a great night out after work yesterday with an artist friend and an old friend of his visiting from merry old England. The friend is a bookseller and times are rough for booksellers in the UK. My Favorite Female noted after a recent work trip to London that her favorite shop in the airport was going to be closing its doors-- times are rough for music and movie stores too it seems.

Cheers, to all you moist-ankled maniacs!

Saving the elusive werelynx though swag.
