  •  I guess Buddhism is what you make it (4+ / 0-)

for some it can be helpful to join a temple or zen center, learn meditation techniques and study the precepts. Me, I'm more of a Buddhist freelancer, and I think the fact that you can get there on your own takes away the religious middleman. I'm sure Siddhartha wouldn't care either way, but for that matter, Jesus probably wouldn't either.

As far as consciousness, there was certainly a time in my life when I had more of a new age type relationship to it, thinking that there would at one point this big sudden shift in consciousness that would jolt through all souls on earth. While still absolutely dedicated to facilitating that kind of a shift, I've become much more pragmatic about how it might come about. I think it's much more about doing the hard footwork on the ground than about hoping for some sort of a grand cosmic intervention.

      concerned.

Crap I guess I'm going to have to buy a new pair of hiking shoes for all the "hard footwork".  Reality gets in the way every time.

If we really want to straighten out all this crap we really need to think about shit - Holy Shit.
