  •  Yes I am. I am just not a progressive. (12+ / 0-)

Liberals don't ban things.   Progressives banned alcohol in the 1920's.

    How did that work out?

bans. Expanded rights, progress, no to authoritarianism.

      •  "Expanded rights" (0+ / 0-)

Exactly WHOSE rights are expanded when pretty much any nutjob with the inclination can assemble an arsenal of military-style weapons with few barriers?

        •  "military-style weapons"? (19+ / 0-)

Why do you hate my Remington hunting rifles?

          http://www.remington.com/...

Or maybe you don't like my actual Yugoslavian M24?

Or is it my 1891/30 Mosin-Nagant?  The sporterized 1917 Eddystone?

          Why?

          •  That's adorable (0+ / 0-)

And sad.  You're fully aware of what is being referred to here, you just want to play your stupid RKBA word games again.  Try a new gig.

Look, if you can fire 50 rounds a minute with it without reloading, it belongs on the front lines, not in deer camp.  Pretending to be so thick-headed that you think anyone wants to take away gramma's old rifle says A LOT more about you than it does about me.

It's says you've sucked down, gargled, and swallowed what the NRA is offering verbatim.

Well, that's enough troll-feeding for one day.....

            •  Maybe you don't like freedom? (7+ / 0-)

That's what I get from your strained "logic" here.

Your strawman arguments of trolling and NRA bullcrap denies us honest discussion of the issues we all face.

Maybe you don't like honest discussion either?

I'll accept any restriction of any "arms" as long as it is across the board.  No one, including our LEO, military, private security guards and the SS can have them.

              Equity Under Law.

Let's start from that premise and work forward, shall we?

Or is this beyond your capabilities?

I've been in the U.S. Air Force for over 22 years.  Been shot at, once or twice shot back.  I was never issued an AR-15 to do so with.

Oddly, every one of my bolt-action rifles is a former military weapon, or direct descendant of one.  (Google "mauser action".  But you won't...)(Also Google "Enfield Mad Minute")

Did you know that the Winchester lever-action was developed with military applications in mind?  http://en.wikipedia.org/...  So, that makes it an "assault weapon" by the actual definitions of the words in the term.

There was even a version with a (GASP!) box magazine.  That would have easily fired 50 rounds a minute.

            •  if that's how they do it where you come from (6+ / 0-)

ok, but we have different traditions here, safety ya know.

You know all the large, old, hunting conservation orgs, supported background checks but not "assault" type bills. Those type of rifles might not be used to hunt deer, but they are still considered something that hunters support being able to own.

and not just NRA astroturf, I disagree with them.

I don't know why any serious hunter would want to be associated with the wanna-be Rambos, the ODSers, and the foil-hatters.

Hence the paper bag--when I hunt I cringe at the idea that anyone might associate me with the manly black toy crowd or their enablers.

                •  Your will is not divine. (0+ / 0-)

Because you believe others to be "wanna-be Rambos", does not make them such.

You can insult people all day long but it does nothing to make your position more valid or theirs less so.

You don't understand why people wish to own these items.  You don't have to understand and apparently you don't have to try to understand. You can choose not to own them since you don't understand their appeal.  What you mistakenly do however is believe that you have some right to limit the activities of others just because you don't understand them and don't like them.

You do not have such a right.
Neither does the Westboro Baptist Church which seeks to  limit the rights of others because they don't understand and don't like.
Neither does the KKK which seeks to limit the rights of others because they don't understand or don't like them.
Neither did Ronald Reagan when he introduced gun control in order to limit the rights of Black Panthers because their activities when they assembled to petition the government for redress of grievances was something he did not understand or like.

The idea that rights should be limited based on how it makes members of the public feel is very far from a liberal and liberating philosophy.  It is a reactionary position based on fear of the other - an emotional and primitive reaction which closes the mind and distances humanity from each other.  It is move back towards tribalism where anyone not like you is stoned to death for simply being different.  It is the death of understanding and mutual respect that a free society depends on to survive.

Lumping me with the KKK, WBC, and RR because you can't convince me of a legitimate reason for people to be able to buy weapons with a high rate of fire and high capacity magazines?  Bite me, gun nut.  Seriously.
It is a reactionary position based on
the repeated slaughter of innocent citizens with weapons that should have never been produced in the first place, let alone put on the market for anyone and everyone to obtain with little difficulty.

Your entire response reeks of complete bullshit.

                    •  I won't get one answer from a group of people? (0+ / 0-)

Color me shocked that each person has their own individual motivations for their own actions.

Your motivation is the same as the individuals mentioned.  If you do not like the comparison I suggest you change your position of wanting to deny other people their rights because you don't understand or are afraid of their exercise of those rights.

People have been killing people since time immemorial.  The tools they choose to do with are vastly secondary to their ability to decide to engage in the action.  You blame firearms for violence and want to reduce firearms to reduce violence.  You need to start focusing on blaming violence and taking actions that will reduce the number of people who undertake violence on others.  The first will do nothing to further your goal while it will violate rights of others, the second will move towards your goal and gain allies of those who are currently your opponents.

Did you know that there are many semi-auto hunting rifles, including AR-pattern rifles?  And that the technology and use of such is over 100 years old?
