would be devoid of war. Since our politicians, driven by the bloodlust of much of our citizenry, can't seem pass up an opportunity, I don't understand how the use of drones is worse than the use of ground troops or traditional bombers. In a war, there have always been and will always be innocent victims. I have posed the question elsewhere, but I will post it again. Why are drones worse than any other weapon of war?

Which I think is needlessly provocative, yours comes closest to what I have long grappled with.

These discussions/debates/rants about drone attacks seem to start in the middle of the issue. IMHO we need to back up a step or two.
Are there people in that part of the world who are actively working to harm our interests?
If so, is there sufficient potential harm requiring us to respond in some way?
If so, what is the best response given the circumstances?

        If so, why?

        •  "Why" certainly requires explorations as well (2+ / 0-)

The answers may not be helpful in determining the immediate needs of self protection, but they should guide actions to reduce the threat 9if any) going forward, and definitely contribute to preventing future situations of a similar nature.

Unfortunately, as with many things that do better with 20/20 hindsight, there is sometimes more eagerness to deal with the "why", than with the "what now" and "how best to respond".

victims.  Perhaps you didn't see the piece about "signature strikes" and even deliberately targeting ambulance crews and other first responders via the "double tap" strategy?
