The people of Louisiana have been at the mercy of corporate greed, lack of oversight and total disregard for the environment, the safety of the people living there and their homes and livelihoods forever. From oil/gas/energy companies to chemical plants to failure of the infrastructure that should have sustained and kept them safe from natural disasters like hurricanes.
That part of the gulf coast has been abused and shattered in the wake of so many disasters one loses count-most of them man made, or at least preventable, had proper regulation and OSHA/EPA rules been implemented, or even enforced.
In order to shave a few dollars off the bottom line, by cutting untold, but conesquential corners, the cost of these disasters has multiplied a hundred fold, while untold damage is done to people, communities, familes and the environment.
If it were in my power I'd call for a moratorium on further 'development' in the entire region, until the government, army corps of engineers, and 'big business' can be brought to heel and has cought up to the attendant challenges that enforcenent of regualation demands, and made to pay more than just lip service to things like OSHA safety regs, EPA requirements and a culture of safety .
