    .....closed turret with an Ordnance Quick-Firing 17-pounder (76.2 mm = 3 inch). It was staggeringly effective, and could take on most Axis tanks, provided it got in the first shot (the Sherman was no match for them in armour thickness). It could penetrate more armor than the 8.8 cm KwK 36 fitted to a Tiger tank!

    The 17 pounder was also fitted to tank destroyers and self-propeller guns.

      something years ago and relying on that. The Firefly was quite effective from what I've read. When I managed a Hobby shop, we hosted a armor modeling club, NJ  Armor Modeling and Preservation Society, AMPS. Great guys with a huge pool of knowledge, about half Vets.

      I had to look it up, Maybe I was confusing the open topped Avenger with the Firefly?
