  •  But WE have choices. (4+ / 0-)

We could choose, as a nation, to ban imports from Bangladesh until they cleaned up their worker protections.  Because "free trade" is not free, when the profits slide inexorably towards those with the lowest standards, driving individuals, corporations, and nations which demand human rights and dignity into ruin.

We could, but we won't.  Because we are controlled by those who profit from others' misery and death, and we allow them to control us in the name of "freedom".  Is freedom to die in a dirty hovel from poisons negligently dumped by those who make a profit from destruction the same as freedom to live in dignity?  Is freedom for a few to amass wealth beyond measure the same as freedom for ordinary people to live decent lives without fear of brutality or starvation?  Is my freedom to swing my arm, dump my trash, or blast my music around so loudly that no one else can think more important than the freedom of others not to get a fist in the face, poison in their water supply, and sufficient peace and quiet to relax?  Americans need to re-consider their ideas about "freedom".
