I really don't see this as much criticism.  He's just spewing out more right wing BS.  He isn't starting some sort of right-wing civil war...he's saying that Dems are unified because they have the media all in step with them doing what they want, but the Republicans aren't in the same situation because the right wing media will go after its own people if they offer ideas they don't like.

That is what he is saying is problematic...that democrats have a loyal media machine behind them but Republicans don't.

Aside from the fact I could write a book trying to unravel all the BS and nonsense in that one paragraph, I don't see this as starting a war.  It still feeds into the right wing narrative of left-wing media bias conspiracies, independant free thinking right-wingers, and the Republicans really have the smart, original, out of the box solutions to America's problems if only they can get that message out.

So I think my fellow progressives are giving Mr. Luntz a bit too much credit for supposedly taking a shot at Limbaugh.

    •  Totally agree. Luntz is a toady of the first (1+ / 0-)

order and will never take any real risks in terms of alienating any of the overlords.  He was attempting to two several things at once:  agree with the crowd at hand that the GOP needs marriage counseling, point out that the Dems are unified and using their powerful media to damage the GOP--now that Fox's ratings are unremarkable it's because of liberal media--, and finally to pitch a sale of his so-called Dr. Phil-like wordsmith consulting services to those winger radio talkers he's critical of.  Luntz knew that by telling folks what he was going to say was hush-hush that it would be sure to get out there and drive the market to him.  He may even be trying to dangle a "welcome, liberal-talkers" sign out front so he can expand his market.  His soul has been sold and resold many times over.
